I don't go a day without using my 1-minute sand timer. It's ideal for supporting explicit timing for so many activities, such as quick clean-up, turn and talk, and motivating targeted students to finish a task. Flip it once or twice to create 2-minute and 3-minute time allocations. While the price tag initially made me hesitate to purchase, the value comes from its robust construction and generous size. I bought mine after observing a colleague using hers and was determined to steal the idea! I also bought the 5-minute sand timer, which I use less often but is also handy to have around.
